We designed an original theme opening for the series.

United Subversive is a collective group focused on producing content based on counter cultures across Southeast Asia.
For this project, we wanted to adopt an alternate musical approach to contribute to the vision of what the US team is going for.
Toying with textures
The initial concept was a mixture of exploded, contorted and futuristic textures overlaid onto a fast uptempo dance beat. It was then translated through design into a soundscape that blends into the show’s logo animation using movement and abstraction.
To reflect the show’s topics revolving around the celebration of Southeast Asian subcultures, we re-sampled traditional instruments from neighbouring origins, such as the gamelan Keprak, the chinese Bolang Gu, and a set of thai Krap into the mix.
The end result is a one-of-a-kind theme song that is slightly danceable, mildly confusing, but pretty awesome. We’re still thinking whether or not to develop it into a full track…. Thoughts? In the meantime, you can check out United Subversive’s first 2 episodes.
