A STORY OF FOUR BEST FRIENDS GROWING UP OVER A TIMESPAN OF TWENTY YEARS, WITH EACH JUNCTURE OF THEIR LIVES IS DEFINED BY THE PLAYSTATION CONSOLE OF THAT ERA.
Though we find them in different circumstances as they grow older, there will always be a way to gather and a time to play.
An Ode to Nostalgia
As console gamers ourselves, it was a very heartfelt moment for us to envision this musical piece and how we would want it to sound. We were given the opportunity to start scoring before the script went into production, and we came up with an idea to tell this story through the use of a motif.
Some of us started delving into Hisaishi’s film music collection, while others went to pre-order the PS5. It took us a while to get the sound we yearned for, but we were pretty happy with the result. It was something simple, yet textural and ornate.
We went on experimenting on short counterpoints within our melodic section within a back-to-back chorus, creating a feeling that aims to evoke something deep and sentimental.
Then onto the horns and trumpets for triumph. Oboes are funny and sad sometimes. And finally, the whole score ends with a tutti statement that cheers on for our four heroes.
